Loving the Artground @ Goodman Arts Centre

There are so many playgrounds for kids. The indoor ones are usually not free otherwise they'll be so crowded e.g. IMM playground. Otherwise they are outdoor and with sunny humid unpredictable Singapore, one can't quite depend on it.

This is the second exhibition at the Artground. It is indoors and free!!!! We decided to visit during the opening weekend with both kids. The Artground changes every few months and the new exhibition is “I SΦ with my Little Eye”. The space is just the right such that I could eyeball L1 who is 3 yrs old, while caring for L2 at the same time. The displays were child friendly and free for children to explore. It is free for a child to imagine and interpret for themselves. There were magnetic boards with shapes for children to play around with. At the side of the stage, there was a slide and the steps were various shapes. There were display houses, xylophone, chairs, cushions or all shapes and sizes. There was an area for children to do origami. They cushioned certain areas below the slide and the dome with foam tiles so that it is baby safe. This way L2 who was 8 months old could be free to explore as well.

There was a constant flow of people but most left for the activities which cost $10 per parent-child pair. The activities are rather refreshing and different from the norm. L1 wanted to play in the exhibition area so we did not join in the activities this time. It was perfect for a playdate too. After which we adjourned to Cafe Melba which was next door for lunch. Cafe Melba had an open area with a bouncy castle and child-friendly turf.

There are many places in Singapore to explore recently. The new Jacob Ballas Children's Garden, the amazing slide playground at Admiralty, Sentosa's Port of Lost wonder, the Christmas shows at the malls etc. I can't help but feel how fortunate they are. Nonetheless, the Artground is definitely one of my favourites. Freedom to imagine and explore is what it provides. We'll be back soon.
